The Mothers’ Union and Making Sunday Special groups

joined forces to hold the 2nd Annual ‘Bake –off ‘

On Sunday 19th June the Vicarage Garden was opened to the residents of Helmsley and with the weather being on our side, a welcoming atmosphere greeted guests as they arrived.

During the afternoon guests were treated to handpicked Strawberries and cream. There was plenty of opportunity to enjoy each others’ company, as well as having a look around the garden.  We must, at this point praise Helen Robinson, what a wonderful sight it was looking at the colourful flowers.   The children enjoyed the games on offer and the freedom to run and hide around the flower beds, finding shelter in the greenhouse as the rain put in an appearance at the end of an enjoyable afternoon

While all that was happening, our Churchwardens Alan Rabjohn and Valma Child had the very difficult job of sampling and judging the 18 entries we received into the Bake-off.   There were three categories -  Fruit Scones, ‘Victoria Sponge’ and Cupcakes (royal themed) After much deliberation and much cake eating the winner and runner up’s where announced

‘Victoria Sponge’ (with a twist)       - Yvonne Bowling (Adult)

                                                         - Claire Thompson (Adult)

                                                             Scone              - Lena (age 5)

                                                                                     - Monika (adult)

Cup Cakes          - Emma (aged 4)

                                                                      - Harvey (aged 12)

All in all a fabulous afternoon was had by all, a great opportunity for the community to come together and see some of the work the Local Mothers’ Union Group and Making Sunday Special do.

Thank you to Tim and Helen for letting us invade your  garden, and to Castlegate café, Crème Café, Traditional Sweet Shop, the Coop and Todds Newsagents for your kind donations towards our raffle.

And many many thanks to all those who helped us make this day so successful but most importantly, enjoyable.
